A Message From Amberli Peterson and Jennifer Bowler, Co-Organizers of Women’s Council One
When Women’s Council 1 was organized, the intention was to follow the Lord’s instruction with humility and care. We, as the organizers, prayerfully studied the scriptures and every statement the Lord had given to the movement regarding women’s councils. We then carefully sought out women who had known the man personally and could speak to his daily walk—this included several long-time friends, a family member, and women from his online fellowship. The goal was not to accuse but to discern truth with fairness. If anyone could defend him, it would be those who knew him best.
The council was conducted with reverence, allowing each woman time to consider the charges, review the witness statements, and seek the Lord’s guidance. When Women’s Council 1 concluded in January 2024, the vote was not unanimous. According to the Lord’s requirement for revoking a priesthood certificate, the absence of unanimity meant the certificate was retained. There was no further attempt to sway the outcome, nor any pressure on dissenting voices. The result was respected, and the council was peacefully disbanded.
We, the organizers, considered our work finished. Every woman who participated was given time, space, and the opportunity to weigh the matter prayerfully and vote according to her conscience. There was no campaign to retry the man, no challenge to the final vote, and no public disclosure of the proceedings.
Our sole intention in sharing this history is to correct the public record. Misunderstandings and accusations have arisen that misrepresent the truth. We hope this complete and honest account will speak for itself. We honor the integrity of every woman who participated and trust that those seeking understanding will approach it in a spirit of fairness and truth.
